hakimian@tek4.wsu.edu (Karl Hakimian - staff) (03/26/91)

Could someone please send me information on X for the amiga. I looked into this
about a year ago but I have lost the information. Thanks.

This information is a little dated, they are up to 3.2 now, but it will give
you an idea of what they have and who to contact.

p.s. I tried to mail direct but couldn't since we lost one of our gateways.

What follows is the readme file for Release 3.1 of X for the Amiga
Upgrade price from 3.0 to 3.1 is $50

New prices in effect:
	X11 for Amiga $395
	X11 + 3b Boing! optical mouse $485
	AIP2000 ethernet package: $795 (down from 899)
	X11+mouse+ethernet: $1185 (down from 1299)

******The main feature of this release is support of TSSnet/DECnet*************

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Large rework of the distribution disks.
The release now consists of 8 floppy disks.
The primary changes are:
All MIT R4 fonts are included (3 packed disks of them)
A new X.demos disk created for the miscellaneous demos that aren't
	really necessary for X11 system
A new disk for the pbm utilities.
The rest of the disks are about the same.

There have been several other changes, bug fixes, etc. from 3.0 to 3.1
	o R4 fonts are standard
o More pbm (portable bitmap) utilities included
	o fixed bug in ifftopbm
o fixed bug in screen saver.
o Nasty GURU bugs in the original MIT arc code patched over.
o Better checking for stack overflow for some operations that
	  required lots of stack.
o new demos: xeyes and maze added to release
o Updated the following to R4:
	     . xdpyinfo
		 . xkill
		 . xlsfonts
		 . xlswins
		 . xmag
		 . xsetroot
		 . xwd
		 . xwud
	o R4 bitmaps are standard
o A new installation script install.small to leave out the 100dpi
fonts and the demos. (saves 5 mbytes)

New Xamiga command line options:
	-tcpip request tcpip connections.
	-decnet request decnet connections.

-productivity 640x480 NONinterlaced screen. Requires ECS
			chips and AmigaDos V1.4 software

The tcpip is provided by the Ameristar 3.0 software.
the decnet is provided by Syndesis. Syndesis' DECnet supports both
ethernet and serial connections. Runs reliably up to 9600 baud with
standard 68000 based amiga. Higher speeds if a faster processor is used.

Complete installation requires 11mbytes mass storage. (5 mbytes of fonts)
Availability. May 1 ( or maybe sooner )

   xbench results
All servers are 1 bitplane monochrome

[ Description of X11 products ]

What about SLIP? Anyone have a version for the Amiga that might
work with the GFXBase X11 products (or did I miss something in the
previous article?).

Regards,
Chris

The information John had here is atleast 1 year out of date.

We are now up to 3.3, here is a little information for those that are
interested. Warning! this could be construed a commercial in nature since
all the following are our products.

Full color support up to 32 colors out of 4096
Resolutions up to 1008x1024, independant of display modes.
Support productivity, interlaced, overscan displays.

Concurrent support for TSSnet (DECnet) AS225 (tcp/ip) and SANA-ipc (local domain)
connections.

Clients, fonts, bitmaps are all X11R4 based.

xlib/toolkit/programmers option:
Complete X11R4 set of libraries, toolkits, widgets, include files, sample source
for the porting and writing X11 applications for AmigaDOS.

XView2.0 programmers option: OpenLook(tm) toolkit, libraries, and include files.

Now in testing: HP widgets, toolkit, libraries, include files.
                  X11R4 server
                  slip

Please email back with USmail address and we'll send an info packet out.

We just successfully completed Connectathon '91 and tested connectivity
with many other workstation vendors like Sun, DEC, HP, Sony, etc. as well
as other Xterminals like NCD.
