[comp.sys.amiga.applications] Excellence and printers

I have an Epson LQ-510 and I'm having difficulty getting nice fancy
font printing in Excellence. I am using the Epson driver in
preferences and text looks great when using the built in fonts in the
printer and in NLQ mode in the print requestor but that precludes any
fonts but what's in the printer. When I try to print fonts on the
page or graphics using "graphics" mode in the print requster in
Excellence, I get 72 dpi text with major jaggies and my printer will
do 360x360 resolution. What's the problem? What do I have to change
to get those fonts to look good? Am I stuck with the 3 built in
fonts in the printer for NLQ output??

The problem is that the fonts themselves are 72 DPI, approximately the
resolution of an Amiga screen. You can get somewhat better quality by
setting the preferences 'smoothing' switch on, but you won't get near the
quality of the built-in printer NLQ fonts. By the way, you do get hi-
res printing (360x360 or 180, if you select the appropriate density setting
in preferences), but since the fonts are not hi-res, you only get darker
text...

You can't do anything. The Amiga screen fonts are a lost case.

Basically, yes. To get good font printing, you could use Pro Page, PageStream
or PageSetter II, which use outline fonts that will always use your printer to
the best of its abilities. As long as C= does not include outline fonts in
the OS, there is no way you can use them in Excellence!. I don't think MSS
plans to add them to the program. But I could be wrong.
