Hello Amigans! :) Nother Problem... ::sigh:: I have dwnlded MrBackup V5.02a.. It won't run.. It keeps GURUing with 'SoftWare Failure' and Guru Med. # 00000003.002350E8.. Here is what I've done to rule-out added Utilities causing the GURU.. Startup-Seq: Removed NoClick, ScreenX, VirusX, Dmouse and DISmounted MessyDosFileSys.. The Steps I've Taken to run the Program.. 1. CLI 'Mrbackup-sw' OR Click on PREFERNCE Icon.. Will not work clicking on the Program Icon.. Does not find 'mrbackup.init'. 2. Place a Blank flop in DF0: and DF1: 3. Click on DF0: and DF1: Gadgets... (checkmark appears) 4. Select the UTILITIES menu option.. 5. Toggle ON the 'FROM' Disk (HDisk) 6. Requestor Window shows ROOT of DH0:.. I double Click 'c' directory 7. Select ALL FILES gadget 8. Hit the COMPRESSION gadget.. What happens: 1. Immediate GURU with above message.. 2. The INFO Box shows 'HDisk:c/AddBuffers'.. ========================== MrBackup.init File ======================= ; Decimal value for screen color 0 color0 = 2730 ; Decimal value for screen color 1 color1 = 5 ; Decimal value for screen color 2 color2 = 4095 ; Decimal value for screen color 3 color3 = 1349 ; Level of Lempel-Ziv file compression. compression = 12-Bit ; Level of Lempel-Zip file decompression. decompression = None ; Should MRBackup generate a paginated listing during backup? listing = YES ; Should MRBackup talk to me? speech = YES ; How should floppies be formatted during backup? format = Quick ; Should MRBackup split large files across multiple floppies? bigfiles = YES ; Should MRBackup set archive bits during backup/restore? setarchivebits = YES ; Should MRBackup test archive bits during backup? testarchivebits = NO ; What method of error handling should MRBackup employ? errorhandling = Interactive ; How many retries on an error? retries = 5 ; Date format: 0=AmigaDOS, 1=International, 2=USA, 3=Canadian dateformat = 0 ; Compression estimate, in percent? compest = 35 ; File buffer size, in K? bufsize = 32 ; What backup mode do you prefer? backupmode = AmigaDOS ; Suppress empty directories from backups? suppress_empty_dirs = YES ( UPld desc. said Guru cause corrected) ; What is the name of the logging file or device? log = S:MRBackup.log ; What is the name of the home device/volume/directory? home = DH0: ; What is the name of the backup device/volume/directory? backup = DF0: ; What is the name of the listing device or file? list = S:MRBackup.list ; What is the name of the backup filter file? bfilter = S:MRBackup.bflt ; What is the name of the compression filter file? cfilter = S:MRBackup.cflt ; What is the name of the decompression filter file? dfilter = S:MRBackup.dflt ; What is the backup volume prefix? prefix = HDsys =========================== My System ============================= 2000 with 69010 processor.. 1meg Agnus Microbotics Ram Board with 2megs Fast Microbotics HardFrame controller with 296N SCSI 80 meg HD. 2 - 3.5 floppy Drives. I read through all the things you did to attempt to correct the prob., and the only solution that I came up with was to re-download it. I have the same version and have had no problems with it at all (no GURU's, loads from WB and CLI, etc.). I've got a A2000HD with 1M Agnus and one 3.5 drive (kind of a bare-bones setup since I didn't have the $$ to go to town on it - it'll still blow the doors of an IBM anyday). If at all possible, try and download the version that is on the Fish disks (#465 to be exact) - you can get this at ux1.cso.uiuc.edu or isca01.isca.uiowa.edu (my personal Fish favorites). By the way, I've also run it with VirusX installed and, just to check for your sake, I ran it with MessyDOS installed and nothing went wrong. I know this isn't much help, but it may be what you've gotta do to fix the problem. RobBob RW1VSANU@MIAMIU.ACS.MUOHIO.EDU

Lynlee: (You had problems with MrBackup . . .) You included the MrBackup.init file, but you didn't say (I don't think) where it was stored. I think it has to be in your s: directory, or else maybe in the same drawer as the MrBackup file. I've used MrBackup quite a bit. You might want to try it without compression, although I've used it with compression and it's worked OK. Good luck! -Roger rhand@well.sf.ca.us
