Has anyone seen the 1.5 update to CanDo? I just got the notice from them. How is the database support, compared to AmigaVision, for instance? Any other comments on the new features? Ned Schultz nschultz@polyslo.calpoly.edu

It is quite nice and the multiwindowing/deck system works VERY well. The database functions are very nice and work well too. The database functions are very easy too. The database functions work off of the new variable system. For instance: Variable names can look like any of the following. Mary Mary[1] Mary.Joe Mary[1].Joe Mary[1].Joe[1] Mary[1,1] Mary.Joe[1] Mary.Joe.Butterfield and so on. These types of variables lend themselves to the database functions quite nicely. Let's say you have an array like this.... Husband[1].Wife[1].Children[1,1] To save off this variable all you do is SaveVar Husband and it will save everything within the contents of ALL of the array to a file (including the wife and children part). The format it saves to is proprietory, but by the same token is also very flexible. They have included on the demo disk of the package a database template that you can add fields, documents and toggle buttons to and make a very quick database. If you choose, you can delete or add any new fields, documents or toggle buttons at ANY time and not lose the contents of that database (except for the the things you have deleted, of course). This is unlike AmigaVision which only allows you to create a database, but you must delete all contents to add a new field or input area. All in all, it's very flexible and quite nice....
