HELP! I am trying to get PasTeX to work on my 1 Meg Amiga 2000 without a hardrive. I want to use LaTeX, so lplain.fmt is necessary. I've downloaded CommonTeX, PasTex (versions 1, 1.1, and 1.2a), TeX3.1, and a few other TeX programs (also PasTeX extras). My problems are: 1. Getting all this stuff to fit on two disks. (I don't have a hardrive) 2. Getting it to work on a 1 Meg Amiga. 3. Getting virtex to successfully read lplain.fmt. To solve 1. I have attempted to put the binaries, configuration files, and format files on one disk. However, still can't really get that to work out. Note: lplain.fmt is 278K or so, and virtex, etc are big as well. To solve 2. I have tried to adjust the configuration files so that it will work on a 1 Meg system. However, there still doesn't seem to be enough memory, and I am fearfull that LaTeX won't work well under the reduced memory values. To solve 3. I have tried to use a lplain.fmt file I have, but virtex consistantly responds with "file error - I'm stymied". What the heck could be causing this. I have tried to run initex to create my own lplain.fmt, but it suffers from case 2 above. I do know virtex is finding the format file correctly, because if it wasn't it would say "Can't find format file" Does anyone know any solutions to these problems? Has anyone else with a limited system like mine gotten it to work? If so, what configuration files, etc did you use? Where have you put all the various files? BTW, I do know you have to "assign TEX: df1:tex" and "virtex &lplain file.tex" Many thanks for your time and effort. Mark Mark R. Craig Internet: mark@zach.fit.edu UUCP: ...!winnie!zach!mark
