[comp.sys.amiga.advocacy] TechByte & CBM tackle Amiga s/w portability?

u3364521@ucsvc.ucs.unimelb.edu.au (Lou Cavallo) (04/16/91)

G'day,

although this may be old news I've only just read that a (Canadian I think)
company called TechByte has made arrangements (with CBM! yay!) to port its
Software Portabilty (sorry forget the exact name) product to the Amiga.

Apparently CBM will provide technical support during the port and marketing
support afterwards (but don't hold CBM to my words, I'm going on memory).

It was reported that Howard Diamond (Director for Education, CBM) commented
to the effect that this would be important to allay the criticism of porta-
bility (lack of) of educational software. {Disclaimer: by my memory etc}

I apologise for the disclaimers but I don't have the magazine because I did
not buy it (only 1/3rd of a column of Amiga material but is the only Oz rag
I know of that's not Amiga specific that sometimes gives Amiga coverage:-()

So this is a turnup eh? CBM "advocating" it's own Amiga interests :-) (well
"advocating" isn't really the correct word, let's say "investing in".)

I hope this news is more interesting than the flame wars going on here ...
:-)

yours truly,
Lou Cavallo.

PS: does anyone know of s/w that has been ported using TechByte's products?
    What can we expect to be ported to the Amiga?  {Speculative I know ...}

    Oh yeah, for the West Europeans, it was stated that TechByte was making
    this move partly with an eye to the large Amiga s/w market out there...

    Thanks Western Europe! :-)
