[comp.sys.amiga.marketplace] Edu prices up ?

gpotts@oregon.uoregon.edu (04/03/91)

I went to my local Amiga dealership today to see about an Amiga 3000. He
whipped out a price list dated 3/25/91 that has substantially higher prices
than the list posted to the net dated 3/1/91. In addition, the list my dealer
gave me has no indication of having come from Commodore -- no letterhead
or logo, just two typewritten pages. Furthermore, some of the specs are
different (eg. the A3000-25/1000 is listed as coming with only 2 megs
rather than 5). The price for an A3000-25-50 is $2719 on the list the dealer
gave me vs. $2547 on the list posted to the net. Calling two other dealers
in the state got me one replication of the prices posted to the net and a
third price that seemed to be an old, out of date quote.

I would appreciate any clarification anyone could give me on this. I can
live with paying the extra $172 bucks if I must, I just hate the idea of
doing business with an unscrupulous dealer.

Thanks.

The clarification is simple, your dealer is lying or
totally brain dead, but I'd personally guess both. It sounds too
well planned to just be a mistake. The price is still $2,547 and
I'd recommend going to the dealer who told you that as he seems
to know what he is doing.
And please give me the name of the two dealers who are
"confused" and I'll see if they can be straightened out.

A3000-25/1000 (1x10^4) Wow, C= (or your dealer) is shipping a 1GB disk
with an A3000-25 and selling it for $2.7K. Jump on it!!! :) Getting
a little carried away w/ the 0's?

Also, if that dealer suggested that the new prices were C='s, C= might
be "interested" in hearing that...

Actually, the scoop is that, when Commodore sold directly
to the student/faculty and the dealer was just an intermediary,
you were buying from CBM and so CBM set the price. Now, you are
buying direct from the dealer and it would be illegal for
Commodore to require them to sell at a certain price. So they can
do as they wish.
