[comp.sys.amiga.emulations] ICD's IDE w/ AmaxII

maxc1553@ucselx.sdsu.edu (InnerTangent - human1) (03/05/91)

I'm thinking of getting a hard diskdrive for my A500 now that I'm beggining to
save up to it.

ICD's newest IDE hard drive is one of the good choices I'm considering. My
worry is, would it work with my AmaxII?

What about if I build a interface for IBM's MFM hard-disk for my A500. Would
AmaxII be able to recognize it and boot up from it?

Thanks for any suggestions, hints.

Yes, it should work with AMAX II. I have my AMAX II, and my hard drive, but
have yet to receive my IDE controller...
You will need software that comes with the IDE controller in order to use
AMAX with the IDE drives.

There's a fully working A-Max II driver for GVP's AT (= IDE)
interface.

Does your disk controller support IDE? Why? That's just an ST-506 type
drive with "Integrated Drive Electronics", and is not going to perform up
to SCSI specs.

If your controller supports IDE, it probably still won't work with AMAX.
The Mac understands SCSI, and SCSI only. If your controller doesn't support
IDE, the drive won't work at all.
