Will A-MaxII support System 7 when it is eventually released? I read a blurb that System 7 will support multi-tasking but not virtual memory on the MacPlus, even on MMU-equipped accelerated Plus systems. A 20MB hard drive and 2 Megs are required to run System 7 on a Plus. It would be nice to have the multi-tasking capabilities of System 7 running under A-MaxII, at least. Lou

>> Will A-MaxII support System 7 when it is eventually released? Maybe. I've been meaning for some time to test System 7.0 on A-Max II.... I keep forgetting to get a copy from our Mac developer. >> I read a blurb that System 7 will support multi-tasking but not >> virtual memory on the MacPlus, even on MMU-equipped accelerated >> Plus systems. >> A 20MB hard drive and 2 Megs are required to run System 7 on a Plus. >> >> It would be nice to have the multi-tasking capabilities >> of System 7 running under A-MaxII, at least. > >I thought that the multitasking on the 7.0 would be limited to the >same MultiFinder (currently beta, I don't think they're even changing >it much). True. System 7.0 will still not multitask like we are used to Multitasking on the Amiga. 7.0 will simply have an enhanced version of Multifinder built in that CANNOT be deactivated. It is always there and if software doesn't like it, then that software is considered to be incompatible with 7.0. Actually, on that side note, there's still quite a bit of stuff that is 7.0 incompatible... including some of the most popular DEVELOPMENT software for the Mac, making it hard for some developers to make their products 7.0 compatible. Our company spent 3 weeks just trying to update our Mac development process so it would run under 7.0. We had to change compilers, debuggers, and more. Not pretty. But our software will require some features only available under 7.0... 7.0 will be very much like AmigaDOS 2.0 is to Amiga users; most of the basic features are still there and working like they did before, the interface has been cleaned up and given a "3D" look, and some features that were only available through 3rd party products or public domain hacks are now built in. The comparison is frighteningly accuate... Enough of my rambling. ;-) Kurt -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- :: Kurt Tappe (215) 363-9485 :: With. Without.
