[comp.sys.amiga.emulations] Bridgeboard-VGA woes

pk@wet.UUCP (Philip King) (04/13/91)

I recently attempted to use an Orchid ProdesignerII SuperVGA board with
my Bridgeboard, to no avail. I get rolling images, as if the vertical
hold wasn't set right. Or sometimes the monitor gives up entirely and
doesn't show anything. I've tried every possible combination of switches
and jumpers on the Orchid (there are two compatibility switch/jumpers,
and one which enables/disables IRQ2) and no go. Here's my hardware:
A2000 rev. 4.5, Sony CPD-1302 Multiscan, A2088 XT bridge, AST Six-Pack
Plus (w/384k ram), Tandy 20 MB Hardcard, Microbotics 8-up DIP memory
board w/2MB installed, ICD AdSCSI2000 HD controller, Seagate/Imprimis
ST-1239N/94350-230S SCSI drive on the Amiga side, 512k chip ram, version
04 of the BB roms.

Has anyone had these problems? I even tried taking out the PC hardcard
and multifunction card, but it didn't help. Could it be the old BB
Bios isn't compatible? I know C= has new roms at least version 06.

Ideas? Your assistance would be highly appreciated!

I don't have a suggestion for your VGA problem but I'm curious about your
comment about new Bridgeboard ROMs being available. Are these to be available
to end users for upgrades? Anyone know about this?

Perhaps the SuperVGA Card needs 16bit solt configuration. Did you say
you had a XT bridge ?

matt.

Go to your local Amiga Dealer and ask for the latest rom for your Bridgeboard.
That is what I did and got it within about a week. ($20 I think...) This was
for a 2088 or XT Brdigeboard, I don't know about the AT or 2286.

the latest roms for the 2286 bridgeboard are 3.6. the latest roms for the
2088 bridgeboard are 3.6.1. these have been out for a while now.

Hmmm, don't be so terse in your explanation. For instance:

How do you determine what version your rom is? (is it written on the chip?)

How long is "a while"? I've had my 2088 since mid-87, it hasn't given me much
trouble (some, but not much), so I've either missed or haven't paid attention
to upgrade notices.

Should I bother with trying to get new roms if I have older roms? How would I
do that?

Yes...apparently the original ROMS had an extension of -04 on them. I have
been told the new ones have an extension of -06. Among other things, it
is supposed to facilitate the operation of the BB with an accelerator in
the system. Hope this helps...

Yes, I have an XT bridge- A2088.

Well, the ProDesigner II is supposed to work on either 8-bit or 16-bit
busses. It has some compatibility jumpers that I tried, but to no avail.
Someone e-mailed me recently claiming they have a very similiar system,
and it works. It could either be the roms I alluded to earlier, or some
other rev. difference I suppose. I'm still interested in hearing from
anyone who has experience with this combo. Thanks in advance!

The number appears at (PC) boot time on the screen. After opening your
PC window, just reboot through Ctr-Alt-Del and watch the top of the screen.
In the box appearing there also the BIOS revision is printed.
