[comp.sys.amiga.emulations] Cannot format floppies in multifinder

buffa@yeu.inria.fr (Michel Buffa) (05/13/91)

Well, I have a problem with AMAX II. I can't format floppies when I'm under
multifinder, but it works when I'm under the Finder. My configuration is:
Amiga 200 with HArd Card GVP2 3megs of ram. I tried the same thing in a
computer shop on a similar configuration, and it worked, so I believe I put
something wrong in the system directory. I have boomerang, flash-it, atm,
vaccine, virakill, and I suppose the normal system files.

I had exactly the same problem. My setup was an A2000HD with 3
megs. No combination of INITs or CDEVs seemed to affect the
problem. I had other problems with MultiFinder too, so I just
turned it off and lived without it. When I got my A2630, I
had 7 megs and turned MultiFinder back on. Since then it has
been working perfectly. I believe the problem was too little
RAM, but I'm not sure. MultiFinder is a RAM hog - 3 megs is
a borderline amount to be running it in, especially if you
have a large System file with lots of DA's and fonts.
