[comp.sys.amiga.emulations] Need help on AMAX partition on A3000

MAJI@SLACVM.SLAC.STANFORD.EDU (Ji Ma) (06/03/91)

I was tring to create a piece of land for AMAX. I use the HDTool set aside
10M space and use reserved file system. I didn't formate it. After I reboot
there is no icon for the AMAX partition, when I startup the AMAX it does
require to initialize the AMAX but after initialization there is no
icon for amax either and I can not use it.

Can anyone who wons a A3000 and use AMAX and successfully partition the
hard drive tell me just exactly how you did?

Thanks in advance.

Maji

You have to either make the partition AUTO-MOUNT, or mount it just before you
run your AMAX. If you do make it AUTO-MOUNT (with HDTools) it will show an
ICON on the workbench under 1.3 with some crap characters after the AMAX
partition name (you did remember to give it a name starting with AMAX didn't
you?). Under 2.0, no icon will appear, even if it is AUTO-MOUNT.

If you do not have the partition mounted, the AMAX software will not know to
look for it when it runs. You also need to have the correct .amhd device in
your DEVS: directory. In your case this is probably the SCSI.amhd file.

Your symptoms may indicate that you neglected to put the appropriate
.amhd driver in the devs: directory. (If you are partitioning an
A3000, put scsi.amhd in devs:).

If you are using AmigaDOS 2.0, use HDToolbox to give it a name
starting with AMAX (ie. AMAX1). I take it you did this since A-MaxII
recognized it and attempted to format it. In fact, I had this exact
symptom and called ReadySoft. Duh! I forgot the driver. Solved my
problem.
