[comp.sys.amiga.emulations] ATM on A-Max2

khl@doc.ic.ac.uk (Kang Ho Lee) (06/14/91)

Hi,
Is anyone using ATM2.0 on A-Max. I seem to remember it is one of the titles
in the software compatibility list floating on the net recently. I believe
it's something to do with the amount/type of memories I have in my machine. My
setup consists of A-Max2.06, 512K chip, 512K "slow" fast and 2M of fast on
A590.
If it only runs on A-Max with 68030 ( ie with MMU, so one big contiguous
memory space ), I think people on the net should know about it. BTW, it works
nicely on my 2Mb Mac SE.

I am using ATM 2.0 and with my AmaxII but I have a '030 system with 9 megs of
RAM and an MMU.

With your setup you might be restricted to using a very small font cache
size. If you are not using Illustrator 3.0 then you might as well go back to
an earlier version of ATM if you cannot get 2.0 to work. The main reason for
2.0's existance is to give Illustrator 3.0 the ability to grab outlines from
the font descriptions.

There should be no problem running Adobe Type Manager under A-Max,
regardless of which CPU you have. I ran ATM with my 2000 for
months without problem. When I got my '030 card, I just swapped
the ^ATM/68000 file for the ^ATM/68020-30 file and kept right
on working. Yes, your font cache size (set in the Control Panel)
should vary depending on 1) How much RAM you have and 2) How
many printer fonts you have. I have lotsa RAM and lotsa fonts,
so I set mine around 320K. Judging by your RAM size, I'd say
192K should easily be enough unless you are using more than a
dozen printer fonts actively.
But the short of it is that ATM works great under A-Max!
