[comp.sys.amiga.datacomm] TCPIP

carpent@SRC.Honeywell.COM (Todd Carpenter) (03/18/91)

I just downloaded Louis Mamakos's amiganos-900418.lzh package from
ab20.larc.nasa.gov. I unpacked it and attempted to compile it.

When it GURU'd while trying to BLINK net, I decided to just run the
existing "net" program. It powered up fine, no problem. However, at
this point my ignorance simply overwhelmed me. Sure, everything
probably *is* in the source code. But without comments, this is murder.
So, I have a few (probably very annoying) questions:

1) The Read.me file says look at the existing domain.txt file for an
example. I am unable to find this file in the archive. Examination of
"domain.c" did not reveal enough to warrant continued reading of code,
since I'm more than a little braindead on Sunday nights... Does anyone have
a working setup they could send to me?

2) Okay, this is *really* embarrassing. How the heck do I connect to my
modem, dial out, and start up the SLIP server at the other end? Is
there some device that I open to do that? Or do I establish a
connection with a regular term package? When I try that with VLT, "net"
is unable to take over, since the serial port is tied up. (Or is this the
information contained in domain.txt?)

3) It looks like the GURU was caused by the BUFSIZE parameter in net.with. I
changed it to 65536 and it completed without nary a peep.

Right now I really only need TCP for some interactive work and for
ftp'ing about the country. Later I'll work on demand driven stuff (like
ftp-find/write-file from GNUEmacs), mailboxes, etc.

Configuration:
  A2500/30, 3MB, 200+MB disk, A2090a, Multitech v32 modem
host (on other end of phone connection): Sparcstation
  Lattice 5.10
  AmigaDOS 1.3.2

Please email replies. If interest indicates, I will be happy to repost a
summary.

Thanks much!
