Say,
I am in the process of attempting to switch from Handshake to VLT to commun-
icate with our HP-9000 at school. The HP is running HP-UX (sorry don't know
what revision). When I login the HP partially aborts the process with the
message " Missing ]." At this point I am logged in but my .login script has
not been executed. The HP does not know my terminal type. I really like VLT,
but I don't have this problem with Handshake.
Does anyone know (or can point me to some documentation of) the
details of the communication that goes on between the host and a dialup
terminal during the initial connect? Can VLT be altered so that HPUX recog-
nizes it as vt100?
We have pretty poor phone lines out here in the outback (especially
when it rains) and VLT seems more stable with regard to noise. I am also
suffering from the phone-dialing-window-big-time-crash with Handshake V2.20c
so I'd like to switch.
Please send Help,
Rick Barrett

Rick -
With regard to your problem with the HP-UX, please send me a capture
file of what happens during the logon. Strip out the password (if any), and
switch on raw capture (script command: capture raw yes) if you would.
Then send it to me in hex form (type opt h would be fine). UUencoded
sometimes works but mostly gets mangled by the IBM... 8(
Willy.

The phone-dialing-window-big-time-crash problem that you are reporting
seems to be a problem with CvtParms. Try manually re-creating your .parms
files. This should help you at least until you make your transition to VLT.
