I'm trying to get everything I need to set up UUCP on my Amiga and I've got the UUCP 1.13 distribution by Matt Dillon from uunet.uu.net. Do I need anything else? Somewhere in the docs, Matt mentions Cnews. Do I need this? I want to get everything I need before I move and lose my net access while I get this set up. ********************************************************** * Tom Hayko * Call The Amiga Showroom * * tjhayko@thunder.lakeheadu.ca * 807-344-7460 80MB online* * tjhayko@LAKEHEAD.BITNET * NOTE: I'm not the sysop * ********************************************************** QUIT

When you use the uucico and getty programs to obtain data, the are placed in spool with cryptic file names, these are the data files retrieved through uucp, and the files such as "Dnews", and "Dmail" simply take these files and put fancy programs around them to read them. Good luck, and thanks for posting this, I Didn't know that 1.13 was the latest version! :) -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Daniel Jalkut -- Amiga guy | "And didn't I read that these devices snozer@toast.santa-cruz.ca.us /// | go two way and everything I do or say 408-429-8628 -- Day /// | is goin' on a tape somewhere right now 408-423-6926 -- Night \XX/ | planted in my cavities?" -- LARD -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cnews and AmigaUUCPPLUS// are "3rd party" extensions to UUCP to allow a more complete "UNIX-like" news environment. You can get these, if you wish, but most people don't need them. Also, there are two news groups dedicated to AmigaUUCP: alt.sys.amiga.uucp - discussions about UUCP on the Amiga alt.sys.amiga.uucp.patches - code distributins relating to amiga UUCP I suggest you post further questions to alt.sys.amiga.uucp ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- These words be mine. In theory, you don't need Cnews. AmigaUUCP contains all you need. In practice, some people have found Cnews to be necessary. I'm not sure exactly what the circumstances are, but people who connect to multiple sites seem to be the ones most frequently finding that AmigaUUCP isn't adequate. You could mail to Matt Dillon (dillon@overload.berkeley.ca.us), or post to alt.sys.amiga.uucp. -- * From the disk of: | jms@vanth.uucp | "You know I never knew Jim Shaffer, Jr. | amix.commodore.com!vanth!jms | that it could be so 37 Brook Street | uunet!cbmvax!amix!vanth!jms | strange..."
