Well, the story is I'd like to use NComm to dial into a VM/CMS system. However, I can't seem to find a CLEAR SCREEN key, or for that matter use any PF.. keys. Can someone help? Thanks in advance... Chris v30170@vax1.cc.uakron.edu or c10343@akronvm.uakron.edu

What gets mapped to CLEAR, PAn and PFn depends on the technician who set up your protocol converter. When I was working with IBM mainframes, our system (SIM/VTAM and SIM3278/VM) was set up to accept a "generic ANSI" terminal. I preferred to use this "termcap" rather than the more specific ones because it seemed more mnemonic to me. (probably because I wrote it?). Anyhow, we used <ESC> n for PFn and <ESC><ESC> n for PAn. PF11 and 12 were the - and = keys, and 13 to 24 were the <ESC><ESC> shifted-n (! to +). I forget what the clear key was; our site used PA2 as clear and some applications ignored the actual clear key itself. So the conclusion is, the key mapping depends on the quirks of whoever set up the termcaps in your protocol converter. .../greg
