[comp.sys.amiga.datacomm] AS225 finger problem

bradford@bu-ast.bu.edu (David Bradford) (06/17/91)

I have recently upgraded from the old Ameristar TCP/IP software to Commodore's
AS225 (version 1.0) and am having a problem with finger (fingerd, actually, I
think). The behavior is this: everything else seems to work fine (NFS, Rlogin,
ftp, finger, etc.), but when I finger the Amiga from a remote machine the
best thing that happens is I get no response - the worst thing that happens is
my Amiga crashes (an Amiga 2500 at version 1.3). I will list below the output
of various possibly relevant commands, and some of the startup files. I have
replaced the name of my machine with AMIGA and commented out the addresses - I
don't want to make it tto easy for everyone to get their laughs by crashing my
machine ;-). I am fairly familiar with setting up tcp/ip stuff, so I am
moderately confident that the addresses, netmasks, etc. are all OK. All Amiga
stacks are 20,000. Please send me e-mail if you have any ideas, if anything
works I will summarize and post a followup. Thanks in advance. David.

finger @amiga
[AMIGA.DOMAIN.edu]

(disk activity on the Amiga, but no response - except to crash sometimes.)

rsh AMIGA finger:
No one logged on

rpcinfo -p AMIGA:

    100000 2 udp 111 portmapper

rsh AMIGA status:

ifconfig ae0 (on AMIGA):

   ae0: flags=63<UP,BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,RUNNING>
	inet 128.XXX.XX.XX netmask ffffff00 broadcast 128.XXX.XX.0

(I added the following line to start-inet to get this - the problem
existed before I added this line:

inet:c/ifconfig >nil: ae0 broadcast XXX.XXX.XX.0 netmask 255.255.255.0)

netstat -a (on AMIGA):
