What is AmigaNOS?

AmigaNOS is 'Amiga Network Operating System' -- a modification of
the original KA9Q packet radio program that was written for PCs long
ago.
It does many things, most important to be is SLIP -- Serial Line
Internet Protocol.
A mailing list has been started as 'amiga-slip@sandelman.ocunix.on.ca'
Please contact me at the address below or
'amiga-slip-request@sandelman.ocunix.on.ca' to be added or removed.

Get a copy of Amiga-UUCP and use getty to do a newshell aux:
the uulib:passwd entry would look something like this:
		shell,password,232,0,(UUCP-Shell),ram:,newshell aux: ;

There is a distribution of Karn's NOS for the IBM with a program called
SLFP.EXE which is a packet driver for the serial port using a protocol
they call Serial Line Framing Protocol. This effectively interfaces with
the local protocal converter (I don't know if thats the correct term, but
it's name is Merit and one dials up with a terminal emulator and you give
it the name of the system you want to connect to, which it subsequently
telnets to).

I would like to use AmigaNOS localy, but the SUN's here haven't SLIP, and
SLIP (which I ftp'd) says it needs to be inserted into the kernal, which,
not being a superuser, I am unable to do. SLIP doesn't talk with Merit (I
tried) but this SLFP does, so I would appreciate it if someone could tell
me where to get it for the Amiga, add it to AmigaNOS, or at least instruct
be on how to get source(or the specification) and instructions on how to
add it to AmigaNOS.

Sorry about the grammar :)

WA3YMH (aka Louis Mamakos, louie@trantor.umd.edu) was responsible for the
original Amiga port. G1YYH (aka John Heaton, J.Heaton@mcc.ac.uk) made the
"recent" changes based on the nos900418 version.

For docs, executables, source, etc...check thumper.bellcore.com (128.96.41.10),
the "home" of NOS (in all its splendor).

   I ftp'd AmigaNOS27.lzh from ab20, compiled it all,
but there are NO docs. Says that WA3YMH/G1YYH made it.. and the
readme refers to louie@trantor.umd.edu, but he didn't know much
about it. Can someone mail me some documentation or something?
This is extremely confusing. Thanks in advance.

If someone would be so kind, I would like to get a copy of it
too :).

Try the file AmigaKIT27.lzh from either ab20... or thumper.bellcore.com.

On thumper there are documentation files for the PC version in pub/ka9q/docs.

Cheers, John.
