I'm writing an application that sits in the background and records keypress events. For the most part, I'm just interested in peeking at the characters the user is typing, wherever he/she happens to be, and nothing else. This part is easy. An added frill I'd like, however, would be to know when the user is typing into a CLI window and, if so, how WIDE this window is. Confusing? Ok. More detail. If user hits key in any window and that window accepts input, take note. Additionally, if window is a CLI window or a text field, find out how wide (in characters) this window/field is and do something special if character is near the "margin". I basically need to predict when the window is going to wrap a few keystrokes before it happens. I can see how it would be hard to do this for just any string requestor, so I'll settle for doing it only in CLI/Shell windows if that's even possible.
