First I would like to say thanks for the many responses to my initial question regarding the use of string functions with Aztec C. Actually, I did know about declaring function types, however after the many responses, I went and examined my include files, and what do you know? There was the rindex function, declared as returning an int, not a char *. Evidently, the include file was overriding my own declaration of the function, causing me all kinds of confusion. Of course, the next question would have to be why on earth the function would be declared as an int in the include files... This is a second hand compiler (the only kind I could afford) so I am thinking that maybe the previous owner "fixed" some things. Anyway, I changed the includes, and now everything is hunky dory. Thanks also for the suggestions regarding compiler purchases. I would still like to get some suggestions of some likely ftp sites and/or fred fish disks which might have programs of specific interest to me for use in program debugging and development. A good make program for example, would be helpful. And in particular some utilities to help me in building and maintaining my own libraries would be nice. I have looked around, but there are soooo many sites, and sooo many Fish disks, and I have little time. Who knows, you might win the next Publishers Clearinghouse Sweepstakes if you help me!
