[comp.sys.amiga.programmer] What is the most recent Kickstart

scroll@cis.ufl.edu (Steve Croll) (04/01/91)

What is the most recent version of Kickstart/Workbench that has been
released to non-developers? From what I have heard on the net,
the most recent version is 2.02 (Kick 36.207/ WB 36.69). I just went
to my dealer for the third time since November to see if they had
the upgrade to 2.02 yet. For the third time they had no clue what
I was talking about. Frustrated, I went to a competitors store and
asked about the upgrade.

The salesman said he did not have 2.02, but he DID have 2.03. He said
Commodore sent it to his store about three weeks ago. I feared that
somehow he got a developers beta version and told the salesman this. He
just shrugged and said that all the 3000's in his store have been running
it for three weeks and have had no problems. He then made a copy
for me.

I installed the new Kickstart and checked the versions. I now have
Kickstart 36.303 and Workbench 36.68. If these are not the versions
I should be running, I would like to know how (and where) to get the
correct versions. I should note that the nearest (A3000) dealer is
about 150 miles away.

Finally, I have noticed what appears to be a bug (or a least an
incompatability) in the new Kickstart. Should I report this to
Commodore (bugs@cbmvax.commodore.com) even if I am running the
"wrong" version?

	2.02 (36.207).

These are developer versions that were sent in late december (I think)
to all developers to start bringing closure to the 2.0 effort. It is a quite
stable version, and I can't think of any major gotchas in it versus 207, but
I can't guarantee it. As far as developer versions go it's 3+ months old.
It is NOT 2.03 (a hypothetical WB release that hasn't happened yet), nor
is it 2.04 (the disk was labelled 2.04 beta).

It can't hurt, though with one that old there's a good chance it's
been fixed. Do report it (make SURE you include as much info as possible
about versions, utilities being run, method of producing the bug, and system
configuration).
