[comp.sys.amiga.programmer] HELP! Advice needed on ARP, C compilers, etc.

bbeutel@boulder.Colorado.EDU (Bruce A. Beutel) (04/22/91)

I have two questions, being an old workbench 1.2 user on a
simple Amiga500 with 1MB and having just finally gotten access
to the rest of the world with a modem...

 1) I now have WB1.3 and have noticed the library ARP.Library,
and have also noticed several programs I have downloaded require
this library. What is it? Can it only be accessed via C? How
    do I find out more?

 2) This is a slightly related question: I've been using TrueBasic,
which I'm sick of since you can't create stand-alone compiled
software with it, and am now using a downloaded ANSI Fortran
compiler, BUT what I'd really like is to be able to program and
do graphics, etc. This means access to the library files (probably
ARP included) and that probably means a C-compiler. Which (if any)
C-compilers will run on my system - only one floppy drive, no hard
drive, and 1MB RAM. I don't mind swapping a disk or two, as long
as it will work! I downloaded the Dillon compiler, but couldn't
even unpack it onto two disks...

THANKS in advance for ANY advice and help. I'm sure there are many
of you out there who understand exactly the direction I am going in
with these questions, and any extraneous information is more than
welcome...

    Bruce

I use Lattice C 5.1 on a system identical to yours.
