Here are the results of an archie search on `gentle'. The document is called `A Gentle Introduction to TeX', by Michael Doob. Once you have obtained the file, it must be TeX'ed. If your TeX is installed properly, this requires no more than typing tex gentle-introduction and hitting return. If (however) you have to change the name of the file, please ensure that you a)TeX the un-archived, expanded, un-uudecoded, untarred, version of the file (in other words, please ensure that the document is ascii: tarred files don't TeX well 8^) and b) use the new name. You don't have to include the `.tex' when processing the file. This will create a `gentle-introduction.dvi' file (and some others. Watch the process: some TeX (and most LaTeX) files have to be done twice to get references properly referenced. Now comes the fun part: to print the file, you must use a dvi-driver on the .dvi file. This will either create a file that you can copy (in binary mode) to your printer, or will feed the printer directly. Info on how to do this should be with the drivers. Some help with choosing drivers: if your printer is a post-script printer, the dvi-driver will be named something like `dvips'. If you use an epson, the common drivers are called `dvieps' and `dvieps72'. If there is a number attached to the name, it indicates the horizontal output in dpi. Note that 9-pin printers are usually not symmetrical, x and y: dvieps from Radical Eye prints hi-res at 240X216. Most other dvi drivers start with dvi and end with some euphemism for the printer that they intend to drive.
