[comp.sys.amiga.programmer] Where can I get GNU C/C++ ?

alanb@sdl.mdcbbs.com (06/18/91)

Sorry if this is a FAQ - I'm new to this group.

Where can I get GNU cc for the Amiga? What is the latest version available?
(I don't have access to anonymous ftp, but might be able to get someone else
to get me a copy if it isn't available on a mail server. Or is it on a
Fred Fish or similar disk?)

Any comments on how it compares with other public domain C compilers
(e.g. DICE). e.g. size of machine required, level of optimization, support
for floating point co-processors/accelerators (e.g. if you have a 68030, do you
get to run 68030 code, or just 68000 code faster)? (I know Sun-3 version
supports 68020 and 68881 flags).

Recommended assemblers (I assume gas exists if gcc does)?

Is g++ (or any other public domain C++ compiler) available on the Amiga?

(Any information on Gnu Emacs on Amiga (mouse support) also welcomed - I use it
at work on my Sun, but don't run X on my 1500. (On the subject of X - what's the
minimum configuration needed to run X sensibly - is it even worth thinking about
on anything less than a 3000?)
