Title says it all.. I have recently put my Amiga 2000 with 40 Meg Quantum on it's side, which, not only looks spectacular, but gives me the needed room on my desk along with the look of just me and monitor, face to face-plate... It looks sharp., but I wanna check before I do any damage... If the disk is mounted on one of the expansion cards, and you stand the Amiga on the wrong side, it is possible that the drive will end up upside-down. This orientation will break many drives (on edge is fine, as is right-side-up). -- -- Ken Farinsky - CATS - (215) 431-9421 - Commodore Business Machines uucp: ken@cbmvax.commodore.com or ...{uunet,rutgers}!cbmvax!ken bix: kfarinsky

Obviously nobody can give a full guarantee, but noone really had bad experiences. To make things a bit surer, they all recommend to newly low-level format your drive in the new position. Or you might ask Quantum or the respective drive manufacturer for their recommendations. There may arise problems when a drive is turned upside down or mounted at a random angle (not a multifold of 90 degrees). -- Best regards, Dr. Peter Kittel // E-Mail to \\ Only my personal opinions... I recall reading that one should also not place a hard drive so that the faceplate is either straight up or straight down, which limits you to an even smaller number of possible angles. However, unless you're building your Amiga into the surface of a table, this shouldn't be a problem. BTW, I'm also building a case for my A500. (For the moment, an A750, as I have already detatched the keyboard. :-) ) I'm going for that "Space: 1889" look (date intentional; yes, it's rosewood and brass time - the keyboard looks really great and/or silly, depending upon how you look at these things) and will be using wood. I've left open _amazing_ amounts of airspace on the inside due to heat fears, and also have planned a fan into the design. My question: is this enough, or is there something else that I should keep an eye out for, heat-wise? Reminders about RF are not necessary, metal shielding is built into the design. It should be significantly more quiet than the original case, as a matter of fact. - R'ykandar. -- R'ykandar Korra'ti | Editor, LOW ORBIT Science and Fiction "I hate you, you timepiece from Hades." - Plucky Duck phoenix@ms.uky.edu | editor@lorbit.UUCP | ukma!lorbit!editor
