[comp.sys.amiga.misc] Apology for Thad's PORTAL email reply problem

thad@btr.btr.com (02/14/91)

My apologies for this net posting, but many recipients of email to which I
replied from PORTAL during the past several days are/were affected by a
serious problem and are readers of the newsgroups to which this is posted.

Reports are just now coming in that dozens, and even HUNDREDS, of duplicate
email replies were sent from PORTAL for each "real" reply.

PORTAL's mailer went FUBAR this past weekend unbeknownst to its users (i.e. me,
among others) and, according to their Customer Services (cs@cup.portal.com),
some 20,000 emails are stacked-up/still-going-out; their local mailer also
went belly-up so I couldn't notify them once I noticed "something" was amiss
though I did leave a msg on their answering machine.

Their motd-equivalent indicates their problem is fixed as of Feb.14; let's hope.

If you're trying to email me regarding user group, tech help, or other matters,
your email IS arriving here at BTR and I've just familiarized myself with BTR's
mail software, so my replies should be arriving shortly (and just 1 copy! :-)

If your email to me at BTR is bouncing, fix your mailer or run pathalias using
map files more recent than a year old; BTR.COM is a fully-registered site.

Please note that email to me at BTR should be addressed as shown in my sig at
the end of this message and NOT to "thad@btr.btr.com" or "thad@public.btr.com"
which, somehow, appear in Usenet postings as the originating address.

My sincerest apologies to everyone affected by PORTAL's recent email problems
and to everyone who had to wade through this posting.

Thad
