[comp.sys.amiga.misc] A2090

rwm@atronx.OCUnix.On.Ca (Russell McOrmond) (02/08/91)

There was discussion at some time, but I don't remember what the solution was to
the problem of getting a 2090a running on an A3000.

 I know that there is a problem with it 'trying' to DMA to fast mem (No can do
on a 16-bit controller), so you need to make sure buffers and the like do not end
up in 32-bit Memory (fastMem).

 I do the following:

  run nofastmem
  binddrivers
  dir dh0:

And I get my DH0: partition (a 1 cylinder partition that just contains the
mountlist of the rest of the drive).
 I then mount the following Device

/* MountList entries for Rodime RO3055 (40 MB ST-506) Hard Disk */

MH0:  Device = hddisk.device
      Unit   = 1
      Flags  = 0
      Surfaces = 6
      BlocksPerTrack = 17
      FileSystem = l:FastFileSystem
      Reserved = 2
      LowCyl = 3  ;  HighCyl = 869
      Buffers = 50
      GlobVec = -1
      Mount = 1
      Mask = 0x00fffffe
      BufMemType = 2
      DosType=0x444F5301
#

  I then do a 'Dir mh0:' and it tells me that it "can't get information .. Not a
filesystem device".

  I have tried without the Mask, I have tried with BufMemType = 0 (To 'allow'
buffers in fast memory), and it always comes up the same problem.

  Any ideas?

	Remove the "filesystem" line, or point it at a copy of the 1.3 FFS
(don't put it in l:fastfilesystem!) Remember, FFS is now in ROM, so there's
no l:fastfilesystem normally. On your A3000Install disk there is a copy
of the disk-based version of the new OFS/FFS filesystem for use in rigid-
diskblocks.

Did you ever Prep the Harddrive with the 2090 Prep command and have the RES0:
device mounted? You need your 2090 manual to get that Harddrive running!

	Why would you want to run a 2090(a) on a A3000?
