[comp.sys.amiga.misc] OS 2.0x for Amiga500

echadez@isis.cs.du.edu (Edward Vincent Chadez) (02/22/91)

Dear Commodore and NetLand:

Can anyone give me and the rest of the Amiga500 community the official
word on whether or not OS 2.0x will be available for the Amiga 500
personal computer?

I've heard rumors to the contrary, and I've heard people say
it will be avaible, but I have yet to hear from the "guys that never
sleep" (<-That's the Amiga People, like Dave H.) as to the non-gamming
future of the Amiga500. It would be a shame to stereotype A500 users as
just game players.

No flames, please. Just honest answers.

I haven't heard anything to indicate that there would be any problem with
plugging an A2000 ROM into an A500. If there really is a difference
between them, someone please tell me.

No, unfortunately I don't think Irving Gould has yet commented on this.

Gah. This question gets asked over and over again. Maybe we need a daily
frequently asked questions list.

Here is the straight stuff: 2.0 will work in the A500, and does not require
the new chip set (although you need the new chips for some of the new display
modes, natch).

2.0 has not been officially released. It is still in beta-test. The only
way to get it (at this writing) is to buy a A3000. And then, you are
really playing beta-tester for CBM if you boot up in 2.0 mode.

Sooner or later, CBM will release ROM upgrade kits, so that you can take your
A500 down to the shop, and bring it home with the release version of 2.0x.
