I attempted to improve the environment in my 2000HD this week-end, but had very little success. One of the things I tried was Norman Iscoves NoClick Version 3.6. After executing it my DF0: still clicked merrily along, much to my dismay! I tried this and Normans KeyBdFix procedure, neither of which worked for me. Since I have seen no problems reported on either I can only assume I have done something fundamentally stupid. The KeyBdFix is the subject of another post if you want to check that one out. The following is the scenario for NoClick. System: A2000HD /2090A controller / Rodime 40MB HD - pure vanilla system. What I did: 1. Downloaded & unzooed NoClick3.6 from FF246. 2. Copied NoClick3.6 to sys:c 3. At the shell prompt I entered NoClick3.6. 4. What is that noise, drive clicking? 5. Lets try that from a power boot-up to see if it makes any difference. 6. Repeat 3 & 4 above. 7. AARRRGGGHHHHH!!!! Normans documentation mentioned that some drives may not be able to do a quiet negative step. How do I determine if that is my case versus my failing to do something correctly to get NoClick to do its thing?? Regards, Jerry Whitman - keeper of the FishXref and FishCon.

This may not make you feel better, but it may assure you that you certainly followed directions correctly. I use an A2500/30 at home and at work. I installed NoClick 3.6 on both machines. The pgm seems to work properly at home, but does not stop the clicking at work. (So there!!??!!) That is If the drive starts out far from track zero, it will click all the way back to track zero and then stop. For example, if you update a file on the floppy, let everything flush, and then power off before taking out the floppy, upon poweron (even with noclick) the drive will click about 40 times. If you run a NoClick type progam and it continues to click, stop using the program Immediately. Otherwise the drive head is banging itself against the stop. [comments about noclick not working deleted] I've often had problems with various "NoClick" programs not working properly if you have an external (or internal DF1:) that is empty. If you have a disk in DF1:, and run noclick on DF0:, it generally seems to work. I've never had any success with any of the variants of NOCLICK. I did find a little gem called SILENCE that seems to work quite well on my A2000 with 3 floppies. The drives click two or three times after SILENCE is run and then they stop. It does cause some (minor) problems with disc copiers like DFC but there is a hot key combination to override SILENCE in these cases. It is also compatible with CrossDos 4.0 which specifically recommends removing any NOCLICK clones from your system. If there is enough interest, I will see if I can get it up to abcfd20 in the near future. davem ***************************************************************************** ** With all the new Amiga groups, how do you know where to ask a question? ** *****************************************************************************
