Pardon my ignorance here, but a thought just occurred to me that I'd like to pursue. I'm looking to buy a 2000 soon, so that I can get a toaster for it. I've got an A500 now, with a Supra HD/RAM add-on. Now it occurs to me that the 86 pin expansion bus from the A500 is a Subset (?) of the A2000's Zorro II spec. Is this right? So, if it is, is there some sort of adapter for the 2000 which will let you plug in A500 peripherals? Even in kit form, it doesnt seem like it would be difficult to build, but I wouldnt want to try wire-wrapping it for noise concerns. It seems ridiculous to have to sell a well-working hard disk/ram expansion unit, and turn around and buy another, just because the adapter for the one I've got is a subset of the one I want. (does that make sense?) Not to mention, I'd get maybe half of what I paid for the disk, then have to turn around and spend full price again??? I dont think so... Any and all help appreciated. Pointers to kits, adapters, etc greatly appreciated! ---------------------------------------------------------------- -Lou Williams Via Bitnet : william8@niehs.bitnet Via Internet: lou@vaxsc.niehs.nih.gov Computer Sciences Corporation, Research Triangle Park, NC ---------------------------------------------------------------- -Sometimes in order to feel better about yourself, you have to make others feel bad, and I'm tired of making others feel good about themselves. -Homer Simpson. ----------------------------------------------------------------

Microbotics used to have a toy like this, which let you bring the Starboard II from your A1000 into the first slot on the A2000. Might work for A500 addons as well, try contacting Microbotics. >It seems ridiculous to have to sell a well-working hard disk/ram >expansion unit, and turn around and buy another, just because the >adapter for the one I've got is a subset of the one I want. (does >that make sense?) A clever company would build an A500 add-on that, inside the case, actually had a 100 pin Zorro II compatible bus. I did actually know of one such memory board, but the company making it didn't last long enough to get rich and established on this technique. There may be others doing it. Being able to bring your inventment in board and peripherals along with you when you upgrade systems is certainly a good selling point. > -Lou Williams Via Bitnet : william8@niehs.bitnet -- Dave Haynie Commodore-Amiga (Amiga 3000) "The Crew That Never Rests" {uunet|pyramid|rutgers}!cbmvax!daveh PLINK: hazy BIX: hazy "What works for me might work for you" -Jimmy Buffett
