But now we're not talking about a home user any more. A frame addressible VCR is in the same price range as the Toaster and Amiga. You could get set up for $6000 total. > Any computer with a 680X0 in it is a real computer!! To hell with the hardware, it's the software that makes it real. All my computers are as real as they can be... even my Atari 800. Haven't had a PC compatible (even a 68000 based one) in this place for years. -- Peter da Silva. `-_-' <peter@sugar.hackercorp.com>.

So far all the people I know that have purchased toasters ALREADY own almost all the video equipment needed for a studio. Then they saw the toaster and for ~$9,000.00 (CDN) bought a toaster/A2500/9MB ram/100 MB HD/assorted other goodies. I've been using the toaster on a 7 megabye A2000 (Yes a simple little 68000) and was QUITE suprised at the speed. Most 'regular 768x480x24bits' renderings are done in under 15 minutes in lightwave, add shadows and 1536x960 antialias mode and your talking an hour or two, but thats still VERY fast! My own personal use for a toaster would be for 3D stills and live video captures. How much would that cost in 24 bits on the Mac for equal performance? (Even if we pretend the rest of the toaster's abilities don't exist) --------------------------------------- | patrick_meloy@outbound.wimsey.bc.ca | | 'The Outbound' BBS Vancouver BC | ---------------------------------------

I'm Toasting... and it only cost me $1,800.... of course this is only the price to add it to my Amiga... but as anyone can see, One can get by with less than $5K (depending on what they want to accomplish). For anyone to say "It will cost you $25,000 to get a Toaster set-up" is making a lot of assumptions and is doing the listener a big disservice. Like I said.... it ony cost me $1,800 to add it to my system, and I SURE didn't have a $23.2K Amiga system! My current system only cost me 8K or so (including my Toaster 'set-up'), which includes a SyQuest Drive to store those huge 24 bit frames! -Mike-
