[comp.sys.amiga.misc] A3000 Problems

jdutka@wpi.WPI.EDU (John Dutka) (04/09/91)

I need some help here, preferrably someone who troubleshoots 3000's.
My 3000 has been having problems with the keyboard. When booting, often
from 1.32 to 2.0, but not always, the keyboard does not work. The only
solution seems to be unplugging and replugging in the keyboard. The caps lock
light will then go on, and the keyboard works.

The second problem:
My 1950 is also acting VERY strange. Quite often, sometimes when on
for long periods of time, the monitor image starts to jiggle, and horizontal
lines appear near the top and near the bottom of the screen, also jiggling.
If I adjust the Vertical Size to some ungodly small size, it stops for
a while, but now I have a 3 inch black space on the top and on the bottom.
Then, if this doesn't work, the image just shrinks all of a sudden, without
my aid, with a black boarder all around the image, and the controls on
the monitor do not work (AT ALL). Also, quite often, there is a large,
very loud static/electric discharge (POP!) from the monitor.

Monitor Serial #: R314BHFCM CW0002465 JUNE 27 1990
3000 Serial # : CA1004791
Kickstart V36.207
Workbench V36.69

Please E-Mail me any replies...

Regarding purchacing an NEC 3D for this video problem:

I have witnessed the problem on an A3000 with a 1950 AND NEC 3D. The system
I saw experienced the same problems with either monitor. After the MOTHERBOARD
was replaced, the problem got better. Notice I did not say 'go away,' it simply
got better. My reason for sticking with my A1000 for a while, until the bugs
are worked out!

I don't think that "snapping" electricity sounds emanating from a monitor can
be blamed on a bad motherboard! If you did have this sound coming from both
monitors and you saw sparks, then I would say that you had TWO bad monitors.
I try not to post too much, but I just wanted all to know that there are many
of us in AMIGA-land that are VERY happy with the video that we are getting
from our 3000's. I have NEVER had any of the video problems that I see posted
everyday. (knock on wood!) 8)
By the way, I AM still having that 2nd HD problem on my 3000.
