[comp.sys.amiga.misc] HELP

mager@unix.cis.pitt.edu (Rainer V Mager) (03/12/91)

Hi, does anyone out there know of anyway to get rid of a
read/write error on a hard drive?

Specifics:
Quantum 105 M hard drive with a Trump Card 500 controller.
	Amiga 500, 1M RAM.
The read/write error occurs when I try to delete a certain
directory. I can rename it, or put things into it, but
I cannot dselete it. When I try to delete it from CLI
it gives me the error "cannot delete directory not
empty". The problem is that it IS emptry, a DIR on it
says ts empty, and I can delte #? from it no problem.
The way I found out it had an error was two ways.
1: I tried to delete it with a disk utility program and
			got the error.
2: When I scanned the whole drive using Whereis I got
the read/write error and narrowed it down to
			begin in that directory.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Please answer soon, with any ideas you have.

Also, if you can please reccommend and HD backup utilities, preferable
public domain.  (or inexpensive)

[Stuff deleted]

I use QuarterBack tools and LOVE it. Its saved my bacon about 8 times already
(I run a multiline BBS with 232 megs on three seperate HDs). When I am
working at 3:00 AM and accidently kill off the entire userlist (The one that
I haven't backed up in three weeks :) I just whip out QBT and recover the
sucker. Its also quite good at repairing errors on HDs. A 44 Meg partition
thats 80% full takes about 1/2 hour to search and repair (with some 8000
files). This package is VERY VERY good and a must have for any serious HDer.
