[comp.sys.amiga.misc] Environment and Fraudigy

kholland@hydra.unm.edu (Kiernan Holland) (05/16/91)

TO ALL ENVIRONMENTALISTS and PRODIGY owners:

You know what I found out,
On PBS there was a documentary a few months ago about the environment.
Did you know that when PRODIGY asks you for some information
(when buying stuff or whenever), the more information you give them
the more money they make off it and the more worse the environment
becomes. What they do is place you into a category of buyers.
They have certain classifications (some downright awnry names for them)
for certain buyers. Then what they do is sell your address, name, and
preferences off to companies that are interested in sending you junk
mail. So you see, it is more of a service to them than it is to
you. They also probably sell this information to LOTUS (who, I think,
just released a CD-ROM containing 96,000 addresses of the highest
income people in the US [I think that number was actually 9,600,000]).
I'm against JUNK-MAIL now. I think COMPUTER SHOPPER and other whopping
large magazines need to either cut down on paper or use less coloring
in their magazines [like maybe color on the front and back).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Isn't it interesting how I can talk about environmental issues
and live in Los Alamos (Home of the ATOMIC BOMB!).
I guess it is becuase I live 37 miles from Santa Fe (home of the
New Age crud, where you can find mental surgery under the same
advertisement area as the Great Hot Tamale Bar and Grill restraunt
[made up name]). If you don't believe me, Check Pasteimpo of teh New Mexican
Newspaper, my oh my what is the world coming to?)

Lotus cancelled this product after the public outcry against it. Also,
in case English is not your native language, you don't have to capitalize
the whole word. Just the first letter, and only if it's a proper noun or
the first word in a sentence.

I take it this means you're proud of being a Christian, and incidentally
an Amiga owner. That is, unless you've changed your mind about the
idea that all Commodore employees are fuckers and that you would rather
own a '486 than the piece-of-shit 3000 they leeched so much money out of
your poor put-upon self for. And just for the record, I really don't
have anything against Christians. I think they're kind of funny.
