[comp.sys.amiga.misc] HELP! - BITFTP can no longer serve me!

bengeult@ssc-vax (Greg Bengeult) (05/16/91)

Can anyone help me with the name of another ftp server? I have been using
BITFTP for several months because I don't have ftp access to the net. Today
I received the following reply to a request for a file:

>> 19:01:46 > FTP ux1.cso.uiuc.edu UUENCODE
>> * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
>> * * BITFTP is no longer able to provide service to * *
>> * * nodes that are not directly on EARN or BITNET * *
>> * * or NetNorth. Your node appears to be * *
>> * * accessible from BITNET only via a mail-only * *
>> * * gateway. If you believe that your node is * *
>> * * directly on BITNET or NetNorth or EARN, please * *
>> * * send mail to MAINT@PUCC specifying your * *
>> * * BITNET/EARN/NetNorth node name. * *
>> * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Are there any other servers out there that I can use? This is probably
going to affect a lot of people onthe net who don't have ftp access.

Since PBS is not a net node, we, too, have lost our ftp access. If you can
post a reponse to this plea, please do so. If you must e-mail a response,
then please include me. As a matter of fact, since our system cleans out
the old files before they become truly old, could you please mail me the
response, even if you post it?

Thanks awfully from the folks who are bringing you "I CLAUDIUS" again.
Watch your local listings, and please contribute to your local Public
Television Station.

The Amiga collection at MRCserv@Janus.MtRoyal.AB.CA is actually fairly good.
IT seems to quite popular with sites for which BITFTP has never been an option
(Europe, Australia). It's currently undergoing a major directory shuffle, but
the collection is easily to find stuff in. We try to keep it up to date with
most of the newer stuff from AB20; you won't find complete Fish disks like you
find on UX1 or ISCA, though. There's about 3000 files there now.
