[comp.sys.amiga.misc] Does anyone know if Imtronics still exists?

troia@gnu.ai.mit.edu (Paolo V. Troia) (05/10/91)

I was looking at some mid-1990 Amiga magazines and saw some ads from a
company called Imtronics advertizing an accelerator for the A500 called
the Hurricane 500. I would be interested in buying this product for my
Amiga, but I wasn't able to contact Imtronics at the phone number on the
old ads... Are they still in business, and if not, is there any other
company that still sells their products?

Also, what are the current alternatives for accelerating the 500 for
~$500 or less? I've heard good things of the ICD AdSDSpeed, and have heard
of the the Saphire from TTR, and the Midget Racer from CSA. I didn't list
the Mega Midget Racer because its price is out of my budget, although I've
heard it's an execellent product. I have no need for a FPU at this time,
but it would be nice to have the option to do add one in the future.

Imtronics was a US based front for the real company in Germany. I got the
name of this company (written down at home) from Ralph Babel. I called them
directly and spoke with their technical people.

The are offering upgrades to their current line of products - especially
the Hurricane 68030 board for the A2000. They promised to send me an
updated disk with thier utilities on it. Until I get this "test" mailing,
I won't trust sending my accelerator card to Germany!

I will look up the company name/address/phone number and post it this weekend.
