Posted on behalf of the Amiga Computer Expo '91 organizing committee. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Amiga Computer Expo '91 - The Finale Well it is over. History. Memories. Choose your metaphor. Only the Mastercard and Visa bills remain to come! Whatever it was the consensus appears to be that it was indeed a very special happening and that without exception the feedback has been extremely positive. The bargains were grand. The seminars superb. The atmosphere electric. And the experience was something else. If you missed it ... tsk, tsk. If you were there, then you know. People came from Pennsylvania (GVP), New York (Nikon), Montreal, Toronto, Regina, Saskatoon, Prince Albert, Edmonton, Red Deer, Rocky Mountain House, Calgary, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Jasper, Banff, Revelstoke, Port Coquitlam, Vancouver and Victoria to experience this high class act. Thanks are in order all around. Over 70 volunteers from the Amiga Users of Calgary made this show possible. The numbers are still being crunched but it is safe to say that we did not lose money, attendance for the day was somewhere over 1100 and over $70,000 in sales took place. An estimated 20% of our guests were new to the Amiga and of those about 35% were professionals with potential business applications in mind. Eighteen door prizes worth over $5000 were awarded (the prize list closes out this article). Commodore reps were caught by surprise at the very high interest level shown in the Unix platform. They tried to cope with having to be in several places doing several things at once. All things considered they managed rather well. A valiant effort under interesting circumstances and a special thanks to Duncan Fraser, Western Regional Sales Manager for Commodore (Vancouver office and our MC for the day among other things) and Jeff Evans, National Product Manager-Amiga of Commodore Toronto. The seminar speakers provided a full day of very high quality, professional presentations and were all very well received. Many attendees have commented on the quality and the ridiculously low prices for 6 hours of the best in Amiga knowledge. It will not be quite as good a bargain next year. Finally, a very special thank you to a super team of people that pulled together in a way only we on the committee will ever know. Literally thousands of manhours spent, hundreds of long distance phone calls, thousands of sheets of paper spent, tons of miles driven and tens of thousands of details to be dealt with to pull it off without a hitch. Believe me when I say they all did a hell of a job. Hats of to all of you guys. It has been a true learning experience. If any reader is interested in finding out more about next year's show either as an attendee, exhibitor or presenter, please contact Geoff Lawrence at 223 Midvalley Way SE, Calgary, Alberta, T2X 1J7 Here are your prize winners.
