Have you seen this program on the Mac. It is a scream. I want one. Talking Moose is a hack that lurks in the background, and monitors what you are doing. Every so often, it pops up and says something humorous, witty, insulting, or whatever. For example, if yo select an UNDO from a menu (any menu, any program) the Moose pops up and says something like, "Can't you make up your mind?" or "Get it right the first time." When you select QUIT, he says, "Not yet! I'm not done yet." He seems to have 100s of phrases, so he rarely repeats. Also, sometimes he just pops up for no reason, and says something appropriate (or not!!) By "pops up" I mean that a little window appears in the corner of the screen containing a picture of a Moose (that looks like Bullwinkle). The Moose's lips and eyes move according to the gist of whatever he says. Any way, I laughed and laughed. I invite any of the Amiga demo builders out there to take a crack at this one. lee

A guy recently had his Mac (and everything else in his study) saved from a burglar because he'd left talking moose on and the crook thought there was someone in there. -- Peter da Silva. `-_-' <peter@sugar.hackercorp.com>.

I have something that purports to do this. It's not spectacular, but it does work. I'll mail the 14210 byte uuencoded LHArc file to anyone who requests it. > lee -- Jason L. It uses a text file to which you can add new sayings or remarks. And I believe you can also play around with the voice characteristics. The only problem I saw with it was running from a floppy. If you accidently removed the floppy from the drive, and moose couldn't find the text, then it was GURU time. If I can find it, I will send it to comp.binaries.amiga. Nico Francois (the author of PowerPacker) did something like this on Amiga. It is called The Guru and it pops up at random intervals speaking some weird texts. It is written in ..... Modula 2 (yuck). He did this for an assignment he had to do when he was still studying. I would have liked to see the heads of the assistants when he made the proposal: real speech ????? (how should they know that's only a library call). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ives Aerts | IBM definition SY-34378 GUTEST8@BLEKUL11.BITNET | A signature consists of sequences of gutest8@cc1.kuleuven.ac.be | non-blank characters separated by blanks. ------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Moose program can be found on the Amicus disks. I believe the relevant disk number is 24. You can either find this via FTP (isca probably has it...) or by looking at one of the ads in the back of Amazing Amiga, etc...
