My brother recently purchased an A500P using the educational discount. I had encouraged him to make the purchase since I beleived that the educational discount would give him a savings of about 40%. He tells me that he only saved about 12% or so. Is the latest Educational Discount a lot worse then the older programs? I used to follow the pricing closely, but the last list I saw was distributed right when Howard Diamond left. The front panel on his 1084S fell off; but the dealer cheerfully replaced the monitor. He said it was not an uncommon problem. John -- John Lindwall lindwall@cs.ucsd.edu "Oh look at me! I'm all flooby! I'll be a son of a gun!" -- Flaming Carrot

As we all know, nobody ever really sells anything at the manufacturer's suggested list price. The dealers's cost is about 45% off SLP. What this means is that his savings of 12% is probably what it should be compared to a local dealer (who ends up making about a 17% profit). Oh well, better to get 12% off than nothing. :-) >((other stuff deleted)) >-- >John Lindwall lindwall@cs.ucsd.edu >"Oh look at me! I'm all flooby! The quantity of the discount is more or less the same, the A500P being $531. The 40% off applies to list. Your brother was probably saying 12% of street price. > >John >-- >John Lindwall lindwall@cs.ucsd.edu >"Oh look at me! I'm all flooby!
