Upgrading up through 2.02 seemed painless, but now I've seemed to have forgotten how to upgrade now. 2.x -> xx seems to only update kickstart. I'm reluctant to run installHD. I don't wish to have to reinstall almost 200 megs of harddisk space. It looks like it'll change my partions if I run it. Is it ok? John

The thing that is not mentioned anywhere is that if you continue after updating your kickstart, it then copies ALL the new files OVER your old ones. Now, for many people that may not be a problem. BUT, if any of you have modified your startup-sequence (to name just one) then you'll be UNPLEASANTLY surprised to find that your modified files have been replaced! I now leave startup-sequence alone and modify just user-startup. The update program leaves that file alone! It doesn't touch anything else. There is another file on the A3000Install disk (InstallHD) that asks for each of the workbench and extras disks, and copies them onto your hard disk. But before it does this it prints the following message on the screen: This will reinstall the system software on the hard disk drive. Files on the hard disk will be overwritten. You will need your Workbench 2.0 disk, your Extras 2.0 disk, your AmigaFonts 2.0 disk, and your A3000 Kickstart disk." Are you sure you want to continue? -- (You may have the UpdateHD script; it prints the same warning before starting) 2.04 will come with a new script (UpdateWB) which only updates the files that need to be updated, and saves off the ones you are likely to have changed before overwriting them) >-- >William "Art" Warner //\ andy -- andy finkel {uunet|rutgers|amiga}!cbmvax!andy Commodore-Amiga, Inc.
