WANTED: a copy of Workbench 2.03 disks I will pay for disks and shipping. Please send email or call (908) 219-5935. The above message will be reposted until I receive a positive response. It is made necessary by the unwillingness of our local dealer to upgrade past Workbench 36.10. He will not even acknowledge the existence of any upgrade. Thanks very much, Veenu vrr@cbnewsj.att.com

Like Veenu, I can not obtain 2.03 from my dealer. He agrees I am entitled to it, b can't tell me any timeframe on getting it to me. This dealer does not have a showr but is part of a national chain of stores dealing in video-related equipment. So, the guy who sold me my A3000, tells me the chain recently reorganized, and they haven't assigned the software updating to anybody yet, though it will probably come out of the Louisville office. Who knows if I'll ever get it? If I could have waited a month (until now), I could have saved $500 thru the Powerup deal and maybe 2.03 would have been shipped with the machine. Guess I'm just a loser. Anyway, I would also pay a nominal fee to anyone for a copy of 2.03. Thanks. Robert Gregory (919) 481-2380

I guess there are simply so bad dealers out there. The dealer I do business with (Put's Electronics in Sacramento) is highly competent. The moral: don't let bad dealers equate to the Amiga being a bad computer. Nothing could be further from the truth.

This is not hard to remedy! Post another note with the dealer's name and phone number and an exact but short description of the problem. Ask people to call the dealer and ask "Do you have 2.03 in yet? No? It's been available for a month! What's the holdup?" After the first few hundred calls, the dealer should acknowledge the existence of 2.03. It won't cost much more than a dollar for a one-minute call, so you should be able to convince quite a few people to make this call. BTW, even though 2.03 is a free upgrade, it's still technically illegal to copy it around. CBM is requiring dealers to ask for proof of purchase. I don't follow this bit about obtaining the new AmigaDOS 2.x upgrades. It hasn't been released yet! I believe the current is 2.04, but there have been a number of intermediate releases that had bugs and/or short comings. As far as I know, only developers may get a hold of it for the sole purposes of bring older software up to date and writing software to make use of new fea- tures. There is no documentation available to the general public on it and because it is subject to change WITHOUT NOTICE - could be down right dangerous to make stabs in the dark! How can dealers get away with selling beta releases when developers are told not to even disclose it? jeff

About the Workbench upgrade which I have been trying to get for the past few weeks: I just received a call from CBM today. A courteous rep listened to me patiently while I explained. He promised to do something about it. Good work, CBM! :-) Thanks very much, Veenu vrr@cbnewsj.att.com

I have requested a copy of a free > product. It is well known that CBM dealers and employees frequently read > this net. You requested a copy of a free 'copyrighted' product that can NOT be distributed electronically. This is the license agreement you agreed to when you first started using the Amiga system software. Anyone that sends you the disks electronically (including Commodore) would be in violation of that license. I doubt very seriously that the engineers that read the net would take it upon themselves to get the license 'changed' for this particular case. Your problem is with your dealer, and from the sound of it, I imagine you are a big pain in the ass to your dealer. That is just a guess on my part however. I suspect if you were my customer (did you even buy your Amiga from your dealer??) I would never find a upgrade for you. Perhaps you should try to act like something other than a whining child. > > I have called, in order, Commodore, the Amiga hotline and CATS. Hmm? > I am not a Commodore employee either, but it does not take having a job from Commodore to know that you have acted like an ass. There is a right way to deal with these problems: First off... make friends with your dealer! Secondly, if your dealer really doesn't have the upgrade.. show a bit of patience... Thirdly... If that fails to solve the problem, call Commodore's Customer satisfaction department and finally... do NOT ask for copyrighted material to be copied and and sent to you. > Thanks very much, > Veenu > > vrr@cbnewsj.att.com > > ---- > Disclaimer: My statements are do not reflect the policy of AT&T and > have no connection with AT&T. [Although my newsfeed is down due to a hard drive failure, I felt the need to
publicly respond to this. Veenu posted his response to my email without first
asking my permission to quote my private message publicly. This only goes to
show that he needs to learn _quite_ a bit about netiquette.]
[I responded to Veenu's original post trying to inform him of better ways to
obtain a new Workbench release than to post threats to the net. I feel that
my response was not out of order, and Veenu's postmaster agrees with me.]
[If anyone feels the need to respond to me about this, please use email. My
news will be down for a while, it appears.]

Ever heard of email? If your intent was just to contact a C= employee, you
should have used email. DTW, do you think they would have responded to a
similar threat? "I will keep sending this to you until you promise to send
me the disks." If you were trying to get some sympathy from one of the C=
employees, you went about it in the wrong way...

Yes, you stepped in it again. Posting private email without the permission
of the person who wrote it is yet _another_ violation of netiquette. It's
obvious you have never read any of the USENET new user files. It goes with
your arrogant style, though.
BTW, your postmaster expressed no annoyance in the email he sent me. He
thanked me for cc'ing him the message I sent you, though.
Also, Veenu sent this message to _my_ postmaster, who justifiably feels ann...

Look, I've seen dealers close because they didn't cooperate with C=. If you
haven't been able to get Commodore's attention, that's your problem. I've
never had a problem with them...
Veenu> I have called, in order, Commodore, the Amiga hotline and CATS. The only

Veenu> Anyone?
1) Keep calling C= and tell them your dealer isn't cooperating. 2) Send email
to a C= employee. CERTAINLY posting such a message as yours was not the right
way to go about it.

If you were looking for info that would be fine. You posted a message and
threatened to repost it until someone offered to send you the disks. That's
NOT a publicly accepted manner to go about anything.
Veenu> Also, I would like a copy of the disks.
Veenu> If this is unobtainable from anyone but Commodore, I would appreciate a

Veenu>
Veenu> Is greg@pfloyd connected with Commodore? As an employee? Hmm?
I'm a registered developer. I have documentation stating that the Workbench
is not freely redistributable. It can only be distributed with a license.
Veenu does not seem to be concerned with such things...
