Hi all, Ive recently been getting crashes which cause my A590 to have R/W errors, and so it wont validate. I got a requester along the lines of "Key xxxxx is a bad header", so I jumped in with Sectorama, and kludged that block into a valid header ( with no data blocks ) - before I change it, it looks like the first data block in a file ( you can tell cause of it's contents ) Ok, so now Ive got a "dummy" file on the disk right ? So originally, I kludged the root block to point at my dummy, but then a re-boot gave me a requester like "key xxxxx already in use", validation failed again. So I took it out of root ( the dummy is still there ), and re-booted again. And.... It worked, so the disk validated ok. Next I did a "dir opt a" to see who was pointing to my block, and I was suprised to find that NOTHING was ! I know this sort of thing probably isnt a good idea to do, but the drive has been re-formatted since too. Anyway, now you've read all that : The question : Can anyone tell me what happens during the disk validation stage so I can go back and do it myself if need be ( I assume it sees the bitmap is invalid, so goes through the whole disk trying to see what belongs where, this is the bit Id like to get more details about ) Anyway, I hope someone can help me. Thanx in advance ! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- John Butcher : bart@asgard.pub.uu.oz.au ..!munnari!eyrie.oz.au!asgard!bart "What's the capital of Victoria, Australia?
