This may be old news, but after a few years of Amiga use I just discovered that I may drag WB objects (drawers, tools) onto the WB screen and leave them there...not in any particular window. I've found it handy to have "emacs", "more", "shell" and "browser" sitting at the bottom of the screen ready for use. The files are not actually moved from their disks: they are simply not displayed in their proper window and seem perfectly happy to remain on the WB screen. Is this an advertised feature? Is there a way to move WB objects onto the WB screen so that at boot time my favorite tools are waiting for me? (BTW - I've got 1.3) -Tom P.S. - these tools sitting at the bottom of the screen give WB a "MicroSoft Windows 3.0" look. Blech.

Yes, and it is also officially recommended (e.g. in the AmigaBasic ReadMe) when you are in a low-memory situation to drag your program icon out of its window, close that window to save the memory, and and only then double-click on the icon to start the program. >Is there a way to move WB objects onto the WB screen so that at boot >time my favorite tools are waiting for me? > >(BTW - I've got 1.3) In 2.0 this is a feature included. It's a great program and I use it extensively. I hardly even open any windows anymore, it's just one click on the dock and off I go.. You could use Journal to record the events necessary to open whatever drawers you want and drag applications onto the workbench. You could playback the journal script from your startup-sequence. I know, it stinks, but it is a way to automate what you have to do by hand... Journal should be on the Fish disks somewhere... -- **************************************************** * I want games that look like Shadow of the Beast * * but play like Leisure Suit Larry. * ****************************************************

Well, a sort of hack way of getting this done is by recording a macro with something like MACHIII then setting that macro to autoplay on startup... -- .____________________________________________________________________________. | | | | Please send all | Sysop of the Virtual Reality BBS | | complaints to | uunet.uu.net!umich!vela!sycom!vrtwo!matt | | | 808-337-1560 * 2400 baud * C-Net Amiga | | >NIL: | USR 14400 baud DS on order - 40 megs storage | |__________________________|_________________________________________________|
