[comp.sys.amiga.introduction] controlling cli via modem

an353@cleveland.Freenet.Edu (Adam Benjamin) (03/25/91)

A fellow Amigan (who shall remain nameless) is trying to control his
amiga 2500 from another amiga through his modem (an internal one)
I think this has been discussed here before, sorry if that's true.
I'm not sure what he is trying to do, but I think he just wants to run
the CLI from the other machine. I told him Arexx could do it, but I
didn't know how exactly. Is Arexx the way to go? and how?
Thanks for your replys,
    //
  \X/ Adam B.

Try the following commands from the machine that is to be taken over:

Mount AUX:
NewCLI AUX:

This will make a CLI run out of the serial port. You need to make your
preferences settings for the serial port match the modem. When you dial
up, the modem will answer and you can talk to the cli.

Another suggestion is DNET (from fish disks).

In any case, you need to get a program called NOREQ from the DNET
distribution. It prevents those "insert volume xx: in any drive"
requestors from coming up on the machine where there is noone to click
on cancel! It is real easy to type "dir abc:" and screw things up
otherwise.

I don't know what ARexx is going to do for you here.
