[] In my continuing (and possibly silly, but hey; it's working!) attempts to make the WB1.3 environment look good and be functional, I have taken the binary of the programme SmartIcon and edited it so that its gadgets now have the 3-D look and feel. Its replacement front, iconify, and back icons now share the general look of NewGads (also not written by me) and NewIcons (which are by me). The same pens are used to achieve the 3D look as in NewGads and NewIcons, so if your NewGads and NewIcons look right, the newer gadgets in SmartIcon will look right as well. Anyone interested, please send me mail. I don't want this generally distributed because I have not been able to contact the author. (Even though it's stated in the doc file to be PD, I feel I should... does anybody have his _current_ address? The last one I have is groult@germinal.ibp.fr, but I'm unable to reach it via netmail. Germinal reports that the account does not exist. By the way, so far I have collected the following in my attempts to make WB1.3 usable and look good at the same time: NewGads (author unknown! Hard drive crash took out my doc file. Help?) Replaces standard front-to-back, back-to-front, resize, dragbar, and close gadgets. I am using the supplied default replacements. NewIcons (R'ykandar Korra'ti (me), phoenix%lorbit.UUCP@ms.uky.edu) Complete replacement set of icons for WB1.3/Extras 1.3. AmiDock (Gary Knight, 76317,3633@compuserve.com) Like DOCK utility for the NeXT; places a set of icons on the WB which may be used to single-click launch programmes. Eliminates searching through drawers for commonly-used programmes. The pen colours on the default icons do not match those in NewIcons or NewGads. I'm hoping to get him to make these settable. SmartIcon (Gauthier Groult, groult@germinal.ibp.fr) Lets any window be iconified; i.e., removed from the workbench screen and placed into a list of "iconified" programmes. Very similar to Xwindows feature of the same name. Most recent version is 2.0; 1.0 is buggy. I'm running the version I modified myself; see above. SetLace (author unknown; didn't receive a doc file with it) Turns on or off interlace _without_ changing WB resolution. This eliminates pixel gap, and on most monitors, does not cause enough flicker to care about. A FlickrFixer would be nicer, of course. :-) pearl.font (author unknown) Very nice san serif font, 8-point, extremely readable. I've got these all on a floppy. If anyone is interested, let me know. We can work something out where you send me a floppy and return postage.
