I recently bought a Sidecar ( remember them? the IBM XT expansion box for the A1000) and a microbotics 2Mb expansion for my A500. The sidecar has a Miniscribe 42mb 3053 hard drive installed... this is my problem! The sidecar works fine, when I set it up I did a low level format using diskmaster, a program that comes with the miniscribe drive. The program formatted the entire 1024 tracks, but when I went to partition the drive for DOS and AmigaDOS, FDISK told me the drive only had 611 cylinders! ADISK, which is used to set up amiga partitions told me the same thing. Now when I run diskmaster, it tells me I only have a drive with 611 cylinders ,and only 4 heads instead of 5. When I try to change this it tells me the BIOS used by the controller does not support non standard drives! I can use the drive for 20 meg fine, but I would love to use the entire 42mb. I realise this is sort of an IBM question, but can anyone help me in partitioning the entire 1024 cylinders. I can be emailed on: spectrum.cs.unsw.oz.au I would prefer to be mailed rather than have any info posted, because I cant always rn thanks in advance....
