Folks, I am looking for a connection to make between a UNIX box ( Motorola, Sun Sparc ) and an IBM AS/400 over TCP/IP. I have the tn3270 program, but from what I've heard, I need a different protocol to talk to the IBM AS/400, which is said to be the 5250 protocol. Questions that I have are : (1) Is there a program available ( freeware or commercial package ? ) I saw Rabbit software offers the RabbitPLUS 3270 (TM) package, but can I talk to the AS/400 with this protocol ? (2) Does anyone out there have any experience in connecting these two machines ? Thank you all who've read this far. -- UUCP: ..!uunet!mcsun!hp4nl!integow!ronald or ronald@integow.uucp Ronald Wopereis, Consultancy Manager, Integrity Software Consultants, Pelmolenlaan 16, 3447 GW Woerden, Netherlands, tel +31 3480-30131, fax +31 3480-30182

What a service! ( Thank you, Mark B. ) The answer is following ( please correct me if I'm wrong, Mark ) : (1) The AS/400 fully supports the 3270 protocol. This means that using the tn3270 program enables you to connect your Unix terminal to the AS/400. (2) For the problem of different function keys on the Unix terminal : One of the CL-commands on the AS/400 named "CHGKBDMAP" takes care of it. (3) MI-TECH ( hope I spelled this correctly ) - I think they are located in Texas - recently annnounced a TN5250 program or package ( about two months ago ) (4) IBM is working on getting the 5250 protocol into an RFC.
