Hello, all (Sorry if this question has been posted earlier). I'm investigating the possibilities of converting an E-mail message into a FAX message. (I'm thinking of a solution in which one can mail his plain text to an internal (RFC 822) E-mail address, from where it's sent via a FAX to an external FAX number). I'm searching for hardware/software solutions that are supported (unsupported PD is not acceptable for our management). The hardware between the host computer (VAX or SUN) and the FAX might be a PC or something else (as long as it's supported). Thanks in advance for any help. -- Rolf Sonneveld -= PTT Research =- The Netherlands RE_Sonneveld@pttrnl.nl (SONNEVELD@HLSDNL5.BITNET)

There are two methods we are currently using, hopefully they'll help you: 1. General Electric Information Systems. Their PC Mailbox package allows you to send e-mail and faxes from any PC with a modem and running their software. 2. Rydex Industries. They produce a bridge between minis and other networks. One of the capabilities is to fax outbound messages. Hope this helps. Let me know if you'd like their phone numbers, as neither is on any net I know of. There are some software available for Sun machines, like Isofax from the Bristol group, but it doesn't interface the the Unix email software. We ended up writing
our on software to do it. We email messages to 'fax' and include the following
lines in the mail headers:
X-fax: 2873299
X-faxpers: Alex Kowalenko
X-faxorg: OTC R&D, OTC Ltd.
A process regularly looks for mail messages for fax, and takes the messages,
strips the header out, extracting information, and constructs a fax header for
the fax, the sends it to a PC, which inturn faxes it out.
If anyone is interested, email me.
