Hello net world!! In trying to understand (and perhaps write some programs) concerning FAX files and protocols, I am looking for the specs dealing with all of the conversations between two FAXs. I have already downloaded the CCITT T.4 Draft Recommendation for group 3 data. However, this does not include the pre and post communications. Does anyone know where this information is available??? |-------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Mark Trotter @ The Ohio State University-Office Equipment Repair | | voice 614/292-1313 2578 Kenny Road | | BITNET TROTTER.1@OSU.EDU APPLELINK U1048 Columbus, OH 43210 | |-------------------------------------------------------------------------|

These cannot legally be stored or distributed in electronic form, because they are copyrighted by the International Telecommunications Union. You can obtain printed copies through various CCITT document outlets in the USA, including the UN bookstore, and National Technical Information Service. I usually buy mine though Omnicom, Inc., in Vienna, VA (1-800-OMNICOM). Copies of CCITT standards are also available in many corporate and university technical libraries. Be sure to get the 1988 (Blue Book) versions. -- Toby Nixon, Principal Engineer | Voice +1-404-449-8791 Telex 151243420 Hayes Microcomputer Products Inc. | Fax +1-404-447-0178 CIS 70271,404 P.O. The full specification is available as one of the CCITT "Red Books": Volume VII, Fascicle VII.3, Terminal Equipment and Protocols for Telematic Services, The International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee (CCITT), Geneva, 1985. You can write to ANSI, Attention: Sales, 1430 Broadway, New York, N.Y., 10018. Sorry, I don't have a phone number. I vaguely recall seeing a price list with $60 for this book, but don't take my word for it. Be warned, the fax protocols involve both digital and analog signal exchanges, timing rules, etc. It generally takes special hardware to make a fax machine. - PauL Drews
